Stay in the yellow. Active shooter

And just like that... it actually happened to someone I know. Yesterday, there was an active shooter at my cousin's workplace in Roanoke. Gunman fired ten shots, killed one person and then himself. Wounded three others. Apparently he was a disgruntled employee who used to work there. My cousin is okay. Don't even know what to say... stay in the yellow, folks. In this day and age, stay in the yellow.

To be perfectly honest with you "I don't leave home without it" (my gun that is).

Same here.
Who knows when you might need it -- kinda like a pocket knife.

IN nJ no legal ccw and a handgun must be transported unloaded in a case and not accessible to the driver also I have to go straight home from when I am done shooting. Going a 3 mile detour could get you arrested. Most police say arrest and let the judge short it out.

Glad to hear your cousin is okay...sorry to hear that such an incident occurred at his workplace.

What's really sad is how people let their anger (emotions) get best of them, control them, to the point where it controls/dictates their actions...or choice of actions. I know we're all human and subject to our situations (at times)...but sheeezzzz! Dig deep and rise above!

You are right though...being alert and maintaining an attitude of constant awareness goes a long way towards being able to respond appropriately and protect or defend oneself appropriately!

I was curious about the fact he was a refugee with legal papers to work here. Does that enable him to legally buy a gun?

A gun, a knife, and a good flashlight. Always. Everyday.

Wow. Sorry to hear of this tragedy but glad your cousin is okay.

I was comfortable carrying a 5 or 6 shot revolver until some nut went on a shooting spree at a Washington state mall several weeks ago. For some reason, that one really opened my eyes. Now, it is a fully loaded double stack semi auto every day and everywhere I can legally carry.

Cousin is female. Just spoke with her again yesterday. One of the victims still in bad shape in the hospital. She's still shook up, had a few panic attacks driving to work so doctor has her on Atavil. Says she needs the job so has to keep going. One nut job with a gun can cause a lot of lasting harm. The world needs responsible, armed sheep dogs ready to defend themselves and those around them. Stay in the yellow.

Just read the thread, good to hear that the posters family is ok ...definitely a different world we live in these days. (workplace shootings have been around) but look around us and see/read (from a reliable news source) whats been going on. Even the media is a disgrace, reporting b.s. that's making people hostile and react irrational.

These workplaces and businesses posting NO GUNS allowed are ignorant. They think a sign is going to keep the idiots and terrorists out of the building? Its an open invite. These types of wackos search for easy prey.

IMO - If a person has applied and received a conceal carry license then they should be allowed to do so. As long as the gun is as stated on the license... 'concealed'
The only place guns should not be allowed to carry is in a court house. There are plenty of officers around with guns in these places. Just my 2c on the NO GUNS allowed B.S.

Do you think maybe her Dr. put her on Ativan? Or Atarax, maybe? I'm not sure there's a drug named "Atavil".

I can imagine your cousin's apprehension, and I do not envy her, her situation. Please pass along my wishes for her to be better at ease, as soon as possible. And it might be a good idea for you to help her to learn to shoot. Where I'm from, cousins do that sort of thing.

Thanks for the post . This is a good reminder like ArisinWind said anytime, anywhere, anyone . I tend to get too relaxed in taking advantage of using my ccw permit that I've had for years . Not much happens in my small town , I tend to carry only when I leave town . But really , I do know better . Thanks again .
