I made a mistake today.

I left work (a no gun zone) early today because I had to help my mother with some chores. I ran home, realized I probably had time to go to the range after the job, and grabbed my range bag (with an SR1911 and Security Six). I also tucked my LCR into my waistband, and went to see Mom.

After the chores, and happily shooting 100+ rounds, I went home. I took the LCR out of my holster and it looked funny - because it was unloaded. I had gone around 8 hours with an unloaded revolver in my holster, and a speed loader in my pocket.

Well, no harm done. My assumption that the gun was loaded turned against me.

Opps... hang on bad guy. Kind of hard to defend myself with a unloaded weapon

LOL. Well I would say we all have made this mistake... but this one, I have yet to make. YET being the key word in that sentence.

With out ammo it is as effective as a rock. One of the advantages and disadvantages of a revolver is you can see if it's loaded or not. I'm guessing that won't happen again with you.

Before holstering up, I make my CCW piece safe, inspect it for operation, then (re)load it up. THEN it goes in the holster.

This is a great reminder to all of us.....
Thanks for posting.

Just to make sure I do not do something similar, I always unholster and check to ensure it is loaded before I carry.

I can see how that can happen though, I was shooting my CCW at the range and it is just habit to leave the gun empty when putting in my bag, once I almost walked out with my CCW empty.

At least you have the chance to make a mistake in Nj a state of 9 million only 1200 non job related carry permits and that includes retired police. Also if I go to a range and shoot a handgun even if when I leave it is unloaded in a case and ammo in a separate case in the trunk of my car I am suppose d to go straight home and not make any unnecessary detours. What is an unnecessary detour most police say I will arrest and let a judge decide.

Here's how it happened. I usually keep this LCR loaded, in a locked case in my basement. It is not my usual carry gun, but sometimes a revolver just feels right. Also, I like the grip much better compared to my LC9s. I went out of town for a week, and had my daughter (adult, but not a gun person) stay in the house. As a precaution, I unloaded all my guns while I was away. Upon returning, I picked up the LCR, assumed it was loaded, and went on my way.

I can see how that would happen. It's a good reminder to check our firearms
