Mall shooting changes wife's mind?

The latest shooting where five were killed in a Washington state mall may have gotten my wife to finally get serious about carrying her weapon all the time, not just when it is convenient.

Up to this point, I don't think she felt she needed to have a gun with her every time she leaves the house. But when she read that some lunatic went into a mall and started shooting people in a Macy's, she realized that it could happen to her too.

Am I being paranoid or pushy by wanting her to carry every day?

People (mostly the slow to learn libs) are starting to realize the false promise of security by way of gun control is a lie.

You just want to protect someone you love. But we each have to decide for ourselves. Carrying requires effort, expense, responsibility, and sometimes discomfort. If you feel safe and comfortable in your environment, why go to all the bother? Each attack by these nut-jobs erodes that comfort. We begin to realize there aren't any safe places. The psychos are killing people in malls, theaters, churches, schools, gas stations....you name it. I got my wife a pistol after she was followed and chased on dark back-roads after locking up her store for the night. After less than a year she had quit taking the gun with her and it languishes today holstered on a high shelf in her closet. I can't make her take it, I just pray for her safety when she's not with me.

Yes of course it is a GUN FREE ZONE except they don't give away free guns to the first 100 shoppers that go thru the door.

When I go to a mall or any where there may be a crowd, I change mags from 10+1 to 17+1 in case there an active shooter. There are too many incidents like this to call it paranoia.
I'm not that set on killing the shooter, just to get his attention so others can escape.

I just don't patronize victim enrichment zones. I don't like malls anyway, always too noisy.

Ive carried an EDC since getting out of the military in 1987. The sidearms Ive carried have changed, but the fact I conceal carry ANYTIME I leave home has not.

20 years ago, my wife scoffed and said I was paranoid.

15 years ago, she would make smart a$$ comments in front of people about me conceal carrying, thus telling them I was carrying, and totally pi$$ing me off. So I started making a point of telling her back in front of people,
" YOU DONT need to run your mouth about me carrying a gun, and asking me in front of people if Im carrying a gun. I was carrying a gun BEFORE I met you, and I'll be carrying a gun when YOU are gone. SO dont ask, you can ASSUME IT ! And its nobodys damn business but mine. SO go get yourself a nice hot cup of "SHUT THE HELL UP."

10 years ago when she got scared somewhere at night, she would very quietly ask me if I had my sidearm, or put her arm around me just to feel it and verify without words I had it.

5 years ago, she finally ask me for training, and her own sidearm. We did both, and got her CCW.

NOW,,, she owns 3 of her own, shoots with me often, and carrys whenever she is going somewhere without me.

With my wife, it was just one of those things she had to come with grips on her own. What the hell does a dumb ole husband know? We are just the 800 LB gorilla in the room.

I drove a tow truck for 25 years and always carried. My wife never said anything, but she never carried. She grew up shooting and has shot with me for over 30 years. After our home was burglarized last year and our son arrived home from high school unarmed and ran the guy off as he arrived, she decided it was time for her to start carrying.

great thoughts guys... if you are concealed well, what's the point of respecting gun free zones? not being a smart aleck... I haven't noticed metal detector's at my local Walmart or anything.

I have never been in a Walmart that was not gun friendly, most of the malls though are anti. Most people I know that conceal ignore signage, but it is illegal in NC, a misdemeanor trespassing charge. Unless it is one of those government places then it can be a felony.

Since my wife, and I open carry we just avoid those places posted. It is refreshing how many places welcome us.

What are the consequences in Illinois of ignoring signage?

It sounds like your wife made up her own mind. Get her training so she can safely handle her carry weapon and range time to practice. We all make up our own mind so although you may have been an advocate it was her decision and now up to you to support it.

Possibly that the malls have become posted no guns?

Years ago the mall here was not posted, had a no guns policy board in the food court in small print. They are now posted as of last year IIRC.
