While it generally depends on where I'm going, how long I'm staying and what I may be doing while there, it is always more than just my EDC .

Interesting. We just spent a week at a camp on Rangeley Lake (northwest Maine). With me was my SR1911 in the truck and Shield 9 for carry. While we were there, there happened to be a drug-related home invasion on Main Street, Rangely, involving a shooting and stabbings. One dead, two hospitalized.

Tfmccann,

This in my mind is the perfect job for a "cheap" 12-gauge Walmart shotgun. My local Wally World has a Savage pumps under $200, and Remingtons and Mossbergs under $300. These are traditional-looking (e.g. no pistol grip) slide actions that would be fine for anything from cottontails and doves with 7 1/2 shot, to defensive purposes with slugs and buckshot. Nobody -- be it your in-laws or a state trooper pulling you over -- would think twice of a humble old fowling piece. And at that price point you don't really have to worry about a little rough handling in your car trunk.

Partner it with a single-stack 9mm that fits in your pocket and you're GTG for most circumstances.

At least four. And, I would be actively carrying something with 12 rounds minimum while travelling.

I take a .45 ACP pistol or a full size 9mm pistol, an AR-15, and a Mossberg 590 with plenty ammo for each. Plus my EDC Shield 9mm.

As stated before - when travelling I take something with a lot of capacity, to carry when travelling, along with at least a spare mag. Then take with, smaller guns, of various capacities and sizes, to be able to have the right sized gun when I need it. I always have as small as my little .380, and this is also the reason I am standardizing caliber in my carry guns, to 9mm, so I can have more ammo without carrying another box. ALL of these would have at least one extra mag, and maybe some high cap mags, with them. LOTS of bullets, if I ever need them!

Typical, will be Ruger 9E, Beretta Px4 Storm Sub Compact(really pretty big), Taurus 709 Slim, Taurus PT738TCP, and/plus, anything else I would deem appropriate for where I was going.

Without carrying anything else, I would have a minimum of100 rounds available, maybe as much as 150 , all hollow points. If I anticipate practice anywhere, I would haul an extra box or two of range ammo.

All of this gear fits neatly in a small dopp kit, except for what I have strapped on/in. Even four boxes of extra ammo if wanted.

My two favorites. The way things are going, I wouldn't want to be stuck 10 hours away from home without at least one of the these. SHTF seems closer than ever although if Caesar can afford to play golf while Rome burns, maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Any time I leave the homestead and venture out of my normal travel routines I add a second gun, LCP+G23 and 6 mags total. The only exception to this is when we travel to NY to see grand kids then I subtract two guns.

Depends on where I'm going. Most of the time its a CZ-75B with a few spare mags and an LCR in my pocket.

When I'm heading outdoors...I tend to go away from the semi-autos to a revolver...my favorite is a 4" Ruger GP100 .357 stoked with 180 grain cast from Buffalo Bore traveling around 1400 fps and delivering 775+ ft lbs of kinetic energy disbursed. It'll handle just about anything that walks...except maybe for that occasional Polar Bear or Moose? A Marlin 336Y in .30-30 will take care of those.

When I'm out in the woods...it's the ammo sufficient to do the job (to deal with the possibilities and the expectations) that really matters!
