IIRC the law that was passed is that a gun can be open carried in a vehicle in a belt, or shoulder holster. The cup would be illegal if it could be seen.

I carry in the vehicle just like I carry outside the vehicle, OWB holster.

In VA and NC, it has to be in plain view if don't have a CCW.
Or locked in the trunk, or area inaccessible to the occupants.

I carry in the same way. Seems perfect to me.

Tx law ...... Frequently asked questions

In Tx Can I open carry in a vehicle?
Yes. You no longer have to conceal your holstered firearm while in your vehicle provided you have a license. If you do NOT have a license, you WILL need to keep your handgun concealed. Keep in the mind that the handgun must be "on or about" your person. This generally means that you must be able to access the firearm without "materially having to change position" to retrieve it. In layman's terms, "within arm's reach." It still must be in a holster.

I use a clip on holster beneath the steering wheel. I cover the rig with one of those headband type ear warmers, just to keep it out of sight. Had it hanging there the last time I got stopped for an expired tag, and it was never noticed. I also have one of those small safes cabled to the frame under the rear seat, if I have to leave the truck in a "questionable enviroment".

Center console in a remora holster. Rethinking that a bit - got a speeding ticket (first in 15 years) this past weekend. Insurance card (required in IL during traffic stops) was in same compartment. A little awkward getting that card out when I needed it.

"Securely Encased" in a vehicle (unless it's on your body)

This means a hard or soft case that snaps/zippers shut,

or a holster w/ a thumb break.

Florida Law:

Legal to carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle as long as it's securely encased.

Even if you don't have a carry permit.

I wonder how many people know that. Or how many Cops know that.

Yep, a difficult situation.
I carry mine on me. If not, in a soft case, separate from where I keep my insurance cards and other stuff.

Others may choose their own way. As for me, I remain convinced the safest way for me to carry is physically attached to my Irish body and .....with a back-up.

Carry a snubby in an OWB cross-draw when driving a vehicle

I keep my DL/insurance card, or any other information in my shirt pocket in a case. Clipped to it is my pen camcorder, crucial items I may need if I am stopped. Even unarmed the officer would be sure that I was not reaching for a weapon in my shirt pocket. IMO this is the safest way for anyone to carry their ID, unless they do not have a shirt pocket. Gun remains on my hip, and my hands stay clear of any place that a officer may suspect could hold a weapon.

Credit cards and cash are kept in a aluminum wallet in a pants pocket, the officer has no need to see them.

Nice little door pocket is standard in the Ford Explorer (at least the 2004 version). Drops in quickly, easy to get to, and is generally out of sight unless one looks through the passenger front window and studies for a bit. Easy to drop a washcloth or napkin over it, but when I'm not in the car, neither is my CCW.
