What can you tell me about the CVA Accura V2

I would like to grab a muzzleloader for deer season. You can only shoot bow, muzzleloader or shotgun in CT unless your on private property with permission from land owner and its 500+ feet from house. So it doesn't look like I'll be able to use my brand new Ruger scout rifle

So I've done some research and it seems like CVA makes the best muzzleloader with the most features (Accura V2). I was wondering if any members here own one and if you do, do you like it. Also, it doesn't look like there's much of selection out there for optics. So I'd like to here what your running for a scope.

I own two CVA rifles. Both work well. Check out Cabellas for sale prices on this line of muzzleloaders. During deer season in Colorado dedicated to muzzleloaders one cannot use scopes so I cannot help you here. Memorial Day sale going on right now at Cabellas and free shipping too.

I like mine. I have owned it for around 4 to 5 years. We have a special "Black Powder" season each year. Mine is a real tack driver. I have made 4 one shot kills, no misses. They have dropped like a ton of bricks as soon as the bullet hits them. I just wish it could be more than just a single shot.

I shoot the CVA Kodiak, so no comment on the Accura

For a scope, I use a plain old 4x Simmons.
Its a muzzleloader, no need to shoot past 150 yards or so. Therfore no need for high power magnification, all it does is reduce dawn and dusk visibility.

I have the prior version of the Accura and love it. It is a pleasure to shoot, has great sights and is very accurate. I shoot 70 grains of Pyrodex Select with a 240 grain TC Cheap Shot hollow point bullet. Very tight grouping out to 200 yards. I played around with larger powder charges but I did not see any great advantages over 70 grains. I have used it twice for deer and both times one shot is all that was needed. You won't be disappointed.

CVA Accura & Apex are probably the 2 best available, both reliability & accuracy wise, along with cost. Either one will serve you well. I have the Apex in a .45 cal, shoots great. Nikon ProStaff is hard to beat. Crystal clear, very good light gathering, great warranty. 3x9x40's run about $160.

I only hunt with traditional ie replicas of 1850 guns so I cannot comment on modern style muzzleloaders.

I will agree with bwinters. I have three BP rifles, a Lyman .54 cal, Great Plains flintlock, a .50 cal Hawken caplock, that I built myself, and a .32 cal Traditions Crockett caplock. There is no acceptable substitute for black powder.......Robin
