| Ruger Old Army...again someday?
Hi - I'm new to Rugerforum but have been shooting Ruger guns for 20 years. My favorite gun discipline is SASS (Cowboy action shooting) and I use Vaquero's of which I shoot Goex FFg loaded 45 Colt. I also have a fixed sight Old Army....which leads me to ask....will Ruger ever offer the Old Army or some other type of cap&ball revolver again?
Thanks
GG ~ SASS# 10274

The opinions (we all have one) around here is that Ruger wouldn't make any more Old Armys because they are on the old model frame. Ruger doesn't convert Old Armys to new models because they don't have loading gates. They would first have to ruin the Old Army and design a passive safety system for a "New" Army cap 'n ball revolver. Would it sell?

Ruger has just made a run of Vaqueros after a 5 year hiatus. So perhaps they'll do the same thing for the Old Army.
That's one Ruger SA I've never owned and I'd sure like to have one.

I'd buy one if they made them again. Not sure I would if they had to lawyerize it tho.

Today I finally scratched this itch. Was at a gun show today, and.... I found a blued Ruger Old Army Revolver. Never was shot! Built in '74 according to serial #. Finally got one after all these years! No box or papers but I could care less about that!

Very nice. How much did you pay, may I ask? I have one that was built in 1973, & also the red box & papers with it. It also was never fired befor, but since I now owe it, I shoot it alot & love it.

I'd like to see the ROA start being made again but I don't see it happening. I was surprised when they discontinued them. They were by far the best BP handgun made. Apparently sales weren't what Ruger wanted so they moved on. I have two ROA's left. I had three and sold a blued one years ago. I have a S/S and a Blued with a factory Brass Frame. I hated seeing them drop the M77/50's. I have two of them unfired.

| $425. I've been looking for some time at every gun show and finally ran onto one that hasn't been beat to death. Quote: |

I always find it funny. When Ruger discontinues a model everyone wants one. It was that way with the SP 101 9mm, the SP in 22 and several other discontinued models. Then the prices soar and people are willing to pay the higher price. I can't remember what year it was I got a new ROA Blued for 125.00. I can't believe what they are going for today since they were dropped. Back then they could be found everywhere. Now they are getting scarce and it's the sellers market. If you want something and think it's going to be a discontinued model grab it while you can. It will save you money in the long run. Owners of ROA's know what they have.

| Good advise ... but as for me.... at the time, I had other 'irons' in the fire, and money was tighter. When I finally turned my attention to getting a ROA, they were no longer made... <shrug> that's life! A year ago I found a nice stainless one at a gun show... I went home to get a SBH that I was going to 'barter' with but when I got back the ROA was gone.... Should have asked him to hold it . Now I still have my SBH, so guess I still came out 'ahead'!

There's many people who have allot of irons in the fire and so they don't have to depend on their job's that might not be there. The name of the game is to survive you have to do what you have to do.
It's just I had noticed that many times as soon a model is gone everybody is looking for them and prices go sky high. I'll be the first to admit Ruger discontinues models you wouldn't think they would. I never thought the ROA would be gone. Not all that many years earlier they made different models of it. Now it's gone. Very sad because Ruger had a jewel with the ROA.
I feel bad you missed out on the S/S ROA at the show. Hind sight is always 20/20. Good luck finding another one.

I'm very glad I got mine. I sold one many years ago when they still made them figuring it'd be easy to replace, I got lucky just after they were discontinued and count my blessings.
