That's a very nice gun there mate.

There's a Stainless Old Army I'm looking at with a view to buy, and would like eventually to also have a blued one. I don't know whether any blued versions came to Australia though - I've only ever seen stainless.

P.S. Don't tell my wife she will kill me with it !

I finally took the plunge for an Old Army myself. Got 145- serial number (haven't done any research on that) 7.5 inch stainless adjustable sighted model in very nice condition. I figured I better get one while the getting is good.

I have been told that the only reason that the old army was kept in production so long was cowboy action shooting. apparently there was not enough demand to keep it in production. I have had old armys before and they were great. The adjustable sight one was a greart gun fro shootin, however it was neither fish now fowl. Adjustable sights meant no cowboy action or hisorical renacting and in nj it is considered a modern firearm. In NJ a benjamin airrifle reqires the same paperwork asa barret 50 cal.

Well the Ruger Old Army had one of the safest revolver set ups of all with their safety notches inbetween each and every chamber. With the hammer locked into the safety notch, there was absolutely no way the gun would have an AD. About three or four months ago there were several rumors floating around about Ruger not reproducing the Old Army but building another black powder six shot revolver. Not sure if it was based on a Remington/Ruger design, open topped or.... They have heavily modified their single action offerings based on SASS needs and wants and an Old Army or its clone would have a definite role in SASS as well. I suggested to them that if they don't produce another black powder revolver that they consider making a Ruger conversion cylinder both in blue and in stainless. They could easily charge 350.00 to 400.00 bucks and get it consistently. Just think of how many Old Armies are floating around out there to be able to convert to 45LC with a Ruger manufactured conversion cylinder. Some of the rumors were just that, a black powder six shooter that came with a conversion cylinder. Those would have to be registered of course, but it would be well worth it. Smithy.

North American Arms entire line of revolvers are based solely on that very same safety prevention of litigation and they've been doing just fine best that I can tell? Smithy.

If there is enough demand they will do it. $$$$$ talks. Think of the 44 spl. It may take someone like Lipsey's to order a certain amount so Ruger isn't "stuck" if it doesn't sell.

I have a 7 1/2 SS ROA, one of my favorate weapons. Got it in the early 90s,so much fun to shoot. I don't think Ruger will make them again. Would be nice if they made evan a short run but in the big picture ie Ruger profits[nothing against Ruger they need to make what makes them the most] BP is a small section of the gun market. Those of us that have ROA's keep them, those who are looking, good luck. I shot my first one back in 79,a friend in the service[USMC] had one[blue 7 1/2],we would go out in the desert and shoot at 155 canisters[155mm cannon artillery cases] Don't know the distance, but we had to use ALOT of 'KW" to hit them. Pull trigger..bang!.............................Clank!! That's when I decided I wanted a ROA

If they were ever to bring them back, I would try to be first in line to get one.
Unfortunately, I don't see it ever happening.

I have a 7.5 Inch Stainless 1981 dated SS Old Army on it's way to me as we speak. I cant wait to clean it up and rotate the cylinder about a thousand times. )
Would trade half of my spleen for a set of high polished 5.5" bbl ROA's with the fixed, vaquero type sights. I'd probably walk around the house with them on all day.
