I am new to this forum, thanks for adding me.
I have a question about Ruger Old Army serial numbers, and would appreciate any help or feedback. In 1993 I bought a brand new in box Ruger Old Army in stainless, which I still have. Although a very fun revolver to shoot, I only managed to fire through it some 3-400 balls before work and family commitments forced me to put the shooting hobby on the shelf (or more correctly in the safe
I am now so fortunate to be able to pick up shooting as a hobby again, and have found the box with the old ROA to lube it up and prepare it for shooting. I also checked the Ruger website, to find out that they don't make the anymore. When I checked the serial number on mine (145-37160) I was puzzled to see that Rugers website said it was manufactured in 1982. Strange since I bought it new from a dealer here in Norway in 1993. I still have the receipt, original box, plastic Ruger bag, nipple tool and owners manual.
I contacted Ruger support by e-mail and asked about my serial number manufacture date, and got a short reply from them saying 'Manufactured in 1982'.
How could this be? I find it unlikely that Ruger would have had this particular revolver laying around for 11 years? Also the owners manual is printed in 1989, which is also a bit strange. I am quite sure the dealer didn't have it stored either, at least not for 11 years.
Could someone offer an explanation for this?
