Still think it's a manufacturer issue?
Think again folks.
This is a government mandate.
Hope you got yours before the embargo....

Cabela's has most everything online except .22.
Bought 100-rounds of. 40 cal from them yesterday.
Both local Walmarts have zero ammo on their shelves.
Not worried about government controls, ammo scarcity is because of new gun owners and people like me who are always looking to add to their supply.

Seems that way
I hope not

Things are getting better than just a couple months ago. I did my usual patrol today and found everything in stock except for 22LR. Some stupid prices were seen, but there were lots of 5.56, 40, 45 and 9mm in all but one of the LGS I checked today. The pipeline was totally emptied and filling it enough to keep 22s on the shelves will take some time.

At one shop today, a geezer came in complaining about how high prices were on all ammo but particularly 22s. Since the Mini Mags he had in his hand were $7.99 I asked him what he'd paid for them before - the answer was $2.99! The last time I paid that was in 93 or 94. So I asked him if he was planning to go shooting - "nope", he said, "I'm just buying them because I hadn't seen any for a while".

Multiply that guy times all the others like him, buying anything they see, just because, and you can imagine how long it will take until 22's are sitting on the shelves without a crowd gathering.

This is believe has been the biggest issue.

It seems 9mm and 22lr are still spotty, but getting better around here. I still think its a supply/demand issue; remember there's been a huge surge in firearms sales.

I have been able to find ammo including 22 at my LGS. There was only one time I stopped that they didn't have 22. Prices are a little high. 44.99 /525 federal this week. Considering what I see online maybe its not too bad but I wont pay it. Had 4 black rifles in .223 2 were bushmaster 800-950 range. Gun display is filling up nicely.

Yes, and one of my LGS's sent out an ad today listing these as being in stock and for good prices:

AR-15s (Bushmaster, DPMS and Colt)
Rock River Complete Lowers
AR-15 (Stag and Yankee Hills)
Springfield XDS 9mm -- IN STOCK
Nighthawk Custom Pistols -- UP TO $200 off

That's it! I'm buying a musket & shoot forks out of it.... or maybe a blow gun....I guess I had better stock up on some kind of poison....What do they shoot those ugly monkeys in the jungle with? and I think I should get one of those super duper sling shots....and if those get banned I'm going to stock up on bras and use those. I dare that communist crazy freak to try to take away my bra! :D

I've finally been able to get 9mm locally last weekend but they are limiting purchases to 100 rounds a trip. (Either 2 box of 50 or 1 box of 100).

The Cabela's near me (E. Hartford) is always out when I check. Going there to get my Father's Day present... Hopefully some will be in then.

Good luck, hopefully this scarcity will end soon

Gov't is trying to buy every thing coming off the line. Old fella's with nothing to do are at wally world buying everything put out each morning even though they'll never shoot it. Both will run out of money (oh wait, the Gov't already is).
Best thing to buy now is shotgun shells and high power rifle (30-30, 30 '06, etc). I think by fall, ammo will start being in stock (calling my shot now) and this time next year everything will be back to somewhat normal).

The government has been buying ammo for the last five years in large amounts so that is nothing new and I think the manufacturers were at the brink of full capacity so any slight increase in demand tipped the scales toward a shortage.

I wouldn't put it past the government to try and cause a shortage but I don't think they are smart enough to do it.

Just when the ammo shortage is starting to lighten up a little, with more ammo starting to trickle into the system and prices slowly dropping on the "Gouging" sites, our favorite "Uncle Joe" and his merry band of gun grabbing left wingers are going to launch a new gun control drive. The wheels have already started to turn for this to happen. This fact is all over the news. The OP "Midlife" might not be as off base as some of us might think. The last gun control push didn't get anywhere, and now "Uncle Joe" and his cronies are pissed. They are going to do anything they can to "Make things right" in their eyes. By now I'm sure they realize they can hit us where it hurts, right in the old Ammo box! This next anti-gun rally is quite likely to start another round of ammo "panic". In other words...It's bad now but the worse may be yet to come. Just my opinion folks. Now that I have got "rant" out of my system I feel much better....Carry On folks...Happy "Ammo" Hunting and have a nice weekend.

Seems things are getting better for you guys.
Glad there's no shortage downunder.
Reloading surplies are in abundance as well.....

Do what you can, I have no doubt D.C. is involved to a certain extent, a lot of things going on that has us where we are.....the biggest issue is too many Zombies who vote for freebies.....If the Muslim in D.C. would have admitted that a crazy man was responsible for Newtown, not the rest of us, this would all be for naught.........

Nobody in my area has any 9mm. I see .380 around here and there, but it has been 3 seeks since I was able to get any 9mm...we are dealing with a ton of issues in MD right now, so panic buying as well as lots of new gun owners are driving up demand a ton.

So it's the government who is buying all the .22LR and the .380 ammo?

I would have to be wearing a tin foil hat to believe that.

My local "super" stores (GM and Cabelas) have had thousands of rounds .40 cal and .223 ammo in stock for weeks now. (I counted rows of .223 ammo last week and saw that there was 30K rounds on the shelf of the .223. thre was even more .40 cal)

.380 and .22lr are hard to get.

Which branch of the govt uses that?

It's the "hoarder for resale" group causing the problem now.

i think it is proven gov purchases are making an impact on availability.

HOWEVER.....

that is small part of the problem compared to panic bulk buyers and those buying up to turn a profit on ammo.

you can make all the conspiracy theories one can come up with, but all you have to do is call any major hunting/sporting goods store....when they tell you they have 100-200 people lined up for ammo every morning....its not hard to pinpoint the problem!

we can stop this! STOP paying for overpriced ammo & STOP wiping out shelves every chance you get.

$50 for a brick of 22? this is considered DECENT? its a more than 100% mark up! WALK AWAY! most of us have at least a small stash of ammo....mine is probably much smaller than most posters here...yet i REFUSE to pay more then 20% above what the prices were before the panic. if you did the same, and walked away from price gouging, availability and better prices will return.

if you stop overpaying and panicking for 1-2 months, we'll be out of this. i'm judging anyone, it is just something to consider.
