Grease?

Hi Everyone. So I just got in my first .22LR ammo, it is made by Wolf. It feels like it has grease on it. Is that normal for .22LR or maybe a Wolf thing? I don't know as it is my first time getting .22LR ammo.

Thanks.

I've found many manufacturers offerings in LRN have a wax coating.

.22 LR rounds use a heeled bullet, rather than one that is smaller than the case, so all of their lube is on the outside instead if in internal lube grooves like on a cast bullet that is smaller than the case. Really not the best system since it lets the lube pick up dirt and grit or get rubbed off, but hey, it still works!

Welcome to the forum

Yup it's a wax coating. Used to be really common before a lot of manufacturers started copper plating their bullets. The only real problem was picking up lint, dirt, & other debre if carried loosly in the pocket.

I haven't had any of the Greasy, oily 22lr but I have a ton of the waxy CCI Tactical 22lr.

You can scrape the stuff off with your fingernail. It fires fine through factory barrels.

Having shot the Match grade wolf, it does feel oily,
but it shoots great.

These guys don't know a thing about ammo. I think your ammo is flawed. To be safe, pack it all up and ship it to me for safe testing. (Or just shoot it and enjoy it - that's what I'd do ) Welcome to the Forum!

Thanks for the info. Now that I really look at it, yeah, it is wax. Guess the really thin layer made it feel greasy.
