CCI Stingers OK for the range?

I have had my 10/22 for about a month and the only ammo I have been able to find is 100 rounds of Stinger ammo. I am new to shooting and have been told this ammo is "the fancy stuff" so I am just making sure that it is appropriate for the range. The friend who is teaching us to shoot said he will bring a few hundred rounds of .22LR but I would like to avoid using up his ammo if I don't have to.

This will be my first time out with the 10/22.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

The stingers should be fine at the range. I believe they are the one's that split into 3-4 pieces on impact mainly for small game hunting. I am sure someone will correct me if I have that wrong.

I hit Dick's at 8:30 this morning and was still about 20th in line for ammo and managed to get 2 100 boxes of CCI minmax. I stopped at my small LGS (local gun store) on the way home and they had just received a case of CCI 22lr standard so I grabbed 2 bricks @ $35 each.

Check the smaller independent stores if you have not already done so.

Stingers=just fine in the "Non-Target" 10/22s

. . . so I am just making sure that it is appropriate for the range.
NO! Do not use them. They will damage your gun. Send them to me and I'll safely dispose of them for you.

Seriously, have a great day at the range. We'll be looking for your range report. :)

Oh, if your friend has plenty of .22LR, I'd take him up on his offer. Write him out an IOU for how ever many rounds of his that you "borrow." You can pay him back when supplies become available again.

“Stinger” cartridges have a longer case
than 22 LR cartridges loaded to U.S.
Industry specifications. They can stick
in the tighter chambers of target rifles,
including the Ruger 10/22 Target and
Tactical rifles, which can result in a
hazardous ruptured case and release of
hot powder gasses and brass when fired

Just for target and tactical rifles.
From the manual.

Stingers are fine just a little more power and price. They are NOT segmented (designed to blow apart). The case is longer but the lead head is shorter.

Thanks for the responses. I would use a cheaper ammo if I could find it but I have been looking since I got the 10/22 and have only found these Stingers. I paid $11.98 for two boxes of 50 and I'm ok with that. I did see in the manual about Stingers in some 10/22s but mine isn't one of mentioned ones.

I will probably go ahead and shoot my friend's ammo and bring mine too just in case. He doesn't mind or else he wouldn't have offered it and I'll probably just buy him lunch afterward :)
