22 ammo -- where is it?

I do not believe that there is any bulk 22 LR ammunition available anywhere. I get it that panic buying is going on, but does anyone know anything about this shortage and when it may end? Right now I do not think that there is any panic buying because there is nothing to buy. No 22 anywhere.

That is one thing I don't have to worry about. I do not own a 22. My current worries have been 9mm. I have enough 357 and shotshell.

I have been placing online ammo orders & they're coming in. Slowly but surely.
But I have my doubts how much longer this will work. Many brands & calibers are backordering until fall!

I read an article a week or so ago talking about gun and ammo manufacturers being innundated with orders due to the recent "panic buying". Guns are either 12 or more months on back order and the article's claim was that ammo would become available, in plentiful supply in about 9 months. Not sure how they came to that conclusion, but take it at face value.

I'm not sure why 22LR is so hard to find. Not too long ago, my LGS had shelves full of large boxes (525 rounds). Now, one cannot find any out there. Is it a matter of people hoarding them or are first time gun owners buying 22LR rifles due to their innocuous appearance and recoil?

My LGS is a Dunhams store. They seem to be very responsible. They keep their shelves of ammo and guns pretty well stocked and they have not jacked up their prices. Last week I stopped in to see what they had and I was fortunate enough to be able to get a bucket of 22LR (hp) ammo.

You were indeed fortunate. There is no 22 LR to be had around here. Hope that changes soon. Fortunately I stocked up on three cases before the election so I can probably weather the storm for a long time if this keeps up. Shortages in the US of A. Who would have thought it?

Just today I was at LGS that I bought a couple bricks of 22lr from just 2 weeks ago. Today I notice they had cases upon cases of 22, only this time they would only sell 1 brick per customer a day. I was surprised only one and not at least two. Oh well at least they have some.

I have noticed on gunbroker that many of the auctions are not hitting minimum and many have removed reserve. At some point we hit saturation and then slowly over the next two years stocks will recover. Check other thread on production calculation, it's not pretty.

I would guess three months based solely on production problems. That is enough time to have the basic raw materials turned into a finished product. But in this day who knows how the politics will effect things? Certainly not me.

If its Eley Target then $23.17 is high but not out of the ballpark.

I haven't seen even a 50 round box of .22 of any style for over a month. I hope my 20k stash will last until "normal" returns. I don't want to ever be below 5k, not the way things have gone the last four years. I may not live long enough to ever again trust finding a bulk pack the same day I want it.

Your question was, "22 ammo -- where is it?". I think in hoarder's closets, under their bed, all over their dining room table, in their bathtub. Most have got to be running out of places to put it by now...........

Bought 525 .22LR rounds at lgs an hour + ago. Limit was 1 box, stayed an hour browsing and all 30 pks of the 525 was gone. One at a time. They had plenty of .45 and .380. The 9mm and .40 they had was all sold before I could get there and I was only minutes away.

Best bet is to place an online order and wait for the in-stock notification email. I've found this to be effective for my 22 and 9mm purchases from Midwayusa. Good luck to you.
