Hey guys, i just bought a box of 40 grain round nose Mini Mags. Is there much of a difference between the hp and round nose? Should i keep the round nose for target shooting and buy a box of Hp for small game hunting?

Thanks, Max

The hollow point on a 22 LR isn't much of a hollow point in terms of actually expansion goes, not in the sense of a hollow point in a centerfire. Anyway, I have never been able to detect a difference on squirrels and rabbits between a solid point HV versus a hollow point HV load when it comes to dropping squirrels. In fact, I've done just as well on edible small game with Standard velocity loads and even 22 Shorts for close-in work. The HPs might be help a wee bit on larger varmints, but even then, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy HPs.

I will give a slight edge in consistency and accuracy to the 40 grain CCI solid points in my 22s, though. Been my go to HV for accuracy work for a long time. The HP CCIs are no slouch in the accuracy department, either, but I usually get a bit tighter groups with the 40s.

X2...with regard to mini-mag comparisons for accuracy in my 10/22...

I also found that Federal Game Shok HV 40gr lubed cprn are slightly more accurate for me at 100M than the mini mags...in all respects including the lube they are so, so close...it is easy to tell the difference between those three (both mini mags and game shok) and any of the rest...but between the three there is not a lot of difference at all...

AT the LGS the price is exactly the same for all three... $7.50/100pk...

Normally the Walmart(s) around here never have the mini mags in 40gr cprn...only the 36gr cphp...however...the price is $7.00/100pk...

IMO...if you can get any of those three for a reasonable price buy them...

It has been a long time since I was able to find any of them...

Sportsman's warehouse had the Game Shok still available online (site to store but not in store)...went to order them minutes later and all sold out...:mad::mad:

The hollow points get hung up in bx-25 mags. I shot some through my MP22 the other day at a big block of ice in a plastic jug. They just looked like little mushrooms after it melted. I did just pick up a case of round nose, and I expect those to feed very well and be very accurate.
