Im Embarrassed With My S&W 617

I have a beautiful Smith & Wesson 617 with a 4" barrel. I love this revolver, but its kinda embarrassing when I shoot it at the range. I can hear the other shooters comments and snickering, even with my ear protection on. The problem? IT LOVES REMINGTON GOLDEN ammo. What can I do? It really is very accurate with this ammo. It does like CCI Standard Velocity, but I want a cheap ammo for plinking. I guess I could dump the Remmys in another brand name box. Has any one else had this problem? It just shocks me that my most expensive 22 revolver loves the crappiest, grubbiest, most disrespected ammo available. **sigh**

You could just act like you never knew about Golden Bullets and shoot the #2 ammo..........

How does it do with Federal bulk? As cheap or cheaper than the Remington. All my .22LRs like it just fine. That and CCI Mini-Mags are all I use in .22.

You should be snickering at them because your weapon will shoot cheap ammo well and theirs won't! You're a step ahead of the game and they're jealous. Enjoy it!

Mine shoots well with just about anything too, I just need to get a couple of speed loaders so that I can knock through that cheap ammo a little quicker.

I've never heard of someone snicker because of what AMMO they shot. Maybe snickers because of a crappy gun or bad shooting, but ammo? Really?

I've never heard someone complain about cheap 22 ammo that works in their gun and is accurate.

That's horribly embarrassing let me take care of it for you send the gun my way Actually I have heard the opposite about 617's so you are in luck that it likes the cheap stuff.

Who cares if anyone snickers ignore them and have fun. I work with a guy that laughs at people clothes and shoes while he wears his brooks brothers. I publicly laugh at him for paying $120 for a shirt while mine cost $25 at sears. Usually shuts him up for a day or two.

Have you tried the 31gr? I found these about one of the most accurate:

Well, there are a lot of things to be embarrassed about in life but I don't think that is one of them. Certainly not enough to warrant a post about the issue. Man, if that bothers you, I imagine you don't get much sleep worrying about really important stuff. Not trying to be ugly, but come on man, really?

North country gal will become famous soon enough
Save your next box from the expensive high grade target stuff and dump those Remingtons in it.

Regarding Remington Golden Bullet ammo - did anyone take a look at this post where this particular ammo caused problems in several Ruger Single Tens? I included a photo I took of some of this ammo. Not every round in the box was like that, but enough were.

It shoots flawlessly in my S&W MP15-22 and is as accurate as anything else in my Single Ten when the casing deformities don't cause problems.

I have tried Federal bulk, Blazer bulk, Winchester bulk, CCI Mini Mags, Federal Auto Match, Federal Lightning, and the Remington Goldens are the most accurate, by far. They will shoot one ragged hole at 7 yards and none of the other ammo will. At 25 yards, they will group into 2" with my elbows rested on a bench.

I could never get the Remingtons to run in any of my autoloaders, so I guess its good that they are accurate in the 617. I have 3 bricks of them. The Federal and the Blazer run good in my autoloaders, and are accurate. The Winchester is EXCELLENT in my Single Ten and Single Sixes.

The last thing I would worry about is what someone else thinks of the ammo I'm using. I'd go down and pull the paper and bring it back and brag about how well it shot. Sort of like doing an end zone dance.

The beauty of revolvers...whether the ammo is crappy or good, it'll still shoot. Consider yourself lucky, I have a S&W model 17 Target in 6" blue, and it has expensive tastes. I get the best groups with it using Eley match ammo.....Ouch!
