Blaser in 22lr

22lr has been getting harder to get lately. I usually use Federal bulk, Remington Golden Bullet and Vipers, and CCI Mini mags. I just got a box of Blazer ammo 500 bulk box that the local Bass Pro shop had. I've never used unjacketed rounds before, and they seem to have a waxy coating to them. I heard they shoot great, but not sure what the wax will do to the barrel. Anyone shoot these rounds, and what are your experiences?

Awards Showcase

Under normal circumstances, & with normal cleaning practices, they will have no effect whatsoever on the bore.
They are the exact same lead bullet used in your Rem's. & Federals, without the "copper wash", which is not to be confused with "Jacketed" bullets.
No .22LR rounds I am aware of, use "Jacketed" bullets !!
The copper or brass color is nothing but a wash, or "plating" !

For many many years, the "lubed lead" bullets were all that was available in .22's, & if you look at a well cared for .22, 75 or 80 years old, it will show little to no effect. I've used many thousands of them in 50 odd years ! They may require a little more frequent cleaning, but not in the extreme. Shoot'em & enjoy'em !!

Nothing but good experiences. I can't tell any difference in the barrel after range trips and it shoot more accurate out of mine that any of the others in that price range. It's good stuff!

My Remington Nylon 66 has seen mostly lubed lead 22LR over its 40 years with no ill effects. Shoot 'em up!

By the way - I cracked up when I saw your avatar. I love the Red Green show! Haven't seen it in years but remember it well. "If women don't find you attractive they should at least find you handy."

We always use Blazers. They are made by CCI and seem to be as accurate as more expensive brands we've tried. At $15.99 for a box of 525 they are a good deal.

I have shot 1000's of rounds of the Blazer Bulk 22lr without any issues at all. No excess lead fouling and less failures than with Winchester or Remington bulk.
I use Wolf MT when accuracy is more important - talk about a waxy coating!! They make your hands sticky. No problems with guns or barrels with them either.

I wouldn't shoot blazers very dirty ammo. I was using blazers in my Sig 22 and shot about 30 rounds and gun got so dirty it wouldn't shoot took it apart and cleaned it and went Remington ammo and shot thee boxes with no trouble.

not a fan of blazer. only shot one box of it, but it was dirty, left some burnt waxy flakes behind, and didn't feed super great. i'm sticking with dirty remington. it IS dirty, but at least my 22 likes it. no trouble stocking up on anything around here, except of course, at the much maligned walmart.

Son of uh! I wished I could get 'em for $15.99 a box. Here, they're $19.99 a box.

Blazer's work in all my .22's and I don't find them to be "dirty" rounds. A lot of .22 handguns (some of mine included) are picky about ammo, and people tend to blame ammunition rather than the gun. Case in point: My BERSA .22 Thunder won't work with Winchester 36 Grain High-Speed; my SR22 eat's it up. The BERSA shoot's everything else I've tried with no problem.

I have shot many boxes without any problems. In fact I have found my pistol shoots more reliably with the 40gr bullet than the 36gr. I usually get more debris out of the barrel with Blazer than the fmj version but it is easy to clean. At 15.99/box on sale for a 40gr bullet I will pull an extra patch to clean the barrel.

In my 21a Beretta Bobcat after 2 mags they fouled up and I had ftf. Cleaned the 21a and used win. 333 and dyna points no problem. The Blazers fired dirty but cleaned up ok.

In my Ruger lcr22 they fired dirty but with no problems.

I'm going to use them in my bolt action rifles. They seem to fire consistantly and accurately.

I picked up a case of Blazers last summer after shooting a couple bricks with no failures. I don't think they are any dirtier than anything else. My 10/22 seems to like them although I couldn't get them to group today. Stingers did fine though, maybe the bore needs a good scrubbing. This rifle is so dependable that I tend to neglect the maintenance. One day an old timer walked by at the range and said, "You know, I've never seen anybody wear one of those out." I'm pretty sure it was a complement.

I decided to try a box...got some today... $20/500 or is it 525...no matter...

This will be the fourth bulk ammo I have tried...

First one was Remington "golden bullets"... I HATE those things...gave away 350 of them...!

Next was Federal something...HV 40 lubed lead rn...like them fine...all gone...haven't seen them again...

Next was Peters...same thing...HV 40gr lubed lead rn...liked these more than the Federals...ran thru 1,000 of them pretty quick...was going to buy 500 more...they were out of stock...got the blazers...they seem to feel slick... like they are coated... but compared to all the other "lubed" rounds I have been using including all the mini-mags they seem quite dry...certainly not excessively waxed like the others...

Can't wait to see how they do for me...

Thousands of rounds of CCI Blazers have been successfully fired through my Marks. Far and away the best I've used---525 round bulk boxes in the $20 range. As stated by others, waxed lead bullets are all us Old Timers used for years.
