Mini 14 and Russian ammol

I have a new ranch Rifle, 582 series, and I am currently using Golden Bear brass plated steel case ammo. It seems to cycle properly, more or less accurate, but I see these stories about broken firing pins and hard primers. I think it is more prevalent with Mini 30s, but I really don't want problems with my new rifle.

So, what experiences are out there? Over at the Mini 14 forum it is a mixed bag.

I have fired russian ammo in 9 mm and 45 acp and 9 makarov and 7.62x39 with no problem than the occasional misfire.

I have fired Tula (polymer coated steel), and Brown Bear (varnished steel cases) with no major problems other than they seem dirtier compared to the major US brands. After shooting Brown Bear, I give the chamber cleaning a little extra attention to make sure that there id no melted varnish in the chamber.

russian ammo

I have used about 500 rounds of Tulamo and Wolf in my mini-14 and have had no ill effects.

It will be a mixed bag no matter where you post. Some shoot steel in their Mini-14 with no problems, others have problems. My research before and after I bought my Mini-14 brought me to the conclusion that I will Never shoot steel in my Mini-14. Brass only. My AR, on the other hand, sees about 50/50 brass and steel with zero problems, but it’s a Colt.

Shoot the cheap crap and it will come back to haunt you, might take some time. If you have a match weopen do not shoot it. will mess up the chamber and void y our warranty
