I've found the Federal bulk stuff the cleanest and most problem free of all the bulk stuff. Remington and Winchester are always very dirty and inconsistent as far as functioning go.

It IS dirty. But you know what, I really like how they cycle and I think the accuracy is pretty good. All of my .22s really seem to like it.
BUT if you are looking for another bulk ammo choice that's not as dirty, I don't think you can do better than CCI Blazer. Its the same price (pretty much) as Fed and Remington, but its quality ammo. Its seems to be harder to find than the other big brands (Federal, Remy,Winchester) at least where I live. Give it a try if you can find it.
I haven't shot a whole lot of Winchester, so I'll leave that review to someone else |

I've had good luck with the Winchester m-22 bulk. Federal bulk is also good for me. I tried a box of Rem Thunderbolts last time and there were a few that had a different sound when fired, last box of Remington bulk I had was littered with FTF rounds. Due to those issues I will avoid Remington in the future.

Rems pretty good but dirty, Win 555 is really clean and functions well. I just ordered 3 boxes of the Fed Blue boxes to see if they work as well as people say they do. Fed Reds have been working better in the summer but in the winter, I don't use that junk

I buy American Eagle in bulk. I know it works well in my guns. It might be a buck or two more a box than the other Federal Ammo though. I'm also not a fan of Winchester white box stuff. I haven't had good experiences with it.

I really enjoy the Blazer myself, though I wouldnt call it clean per say. But, really is there "clean" bulk ammo?

I like CCI Blazer ammo. The 40 grain RN is accurate, clean and reliable.

I've heard the Federal bulk run spotty.
but guess I've been luckly, not had that much of a problem with it.
my absolute fav is the target stuff from Aguila ..
yes it's about 10bux more per 500, but always goes bang, clean, smells like the old Lake City 30 carbine ammo ...
I see a lot of ammo go through the AppleSeed events.
Been through a ton of the Aguila during the events..
never a problem.
Seen all of the discount bulk box ammo come and go with problems.
I had some 20 yo Remington Golden BB stuff, and it was much better than the brand new stuff. Old stuff all went bang, the couple of boxes of 500 Remington stuff I had from wallyworld had about 5% not go bang, and lots of "fliers". opening up groups.
If just plinking, a fail to fire isn't a biggy...
on the events its a PIA, and loss of score.
Swore off the bulk box stuff for any events, and I stick with the Agulia target stuff. all my 10/22's love it. tightens up the groups.
I do stick with the Federal plated stuff, I have a 1911 in 22lr that prefers the plated bullets. AMM-060 - Ammo .22 LR Aguila Target Lead Round Nose 40 Grain 500 Round 1100 fps Great for Plinking Eley Primed |

For my old Marlin rifle which is pretty ammo picky for some reason, I use the Federal Target which are lead. More expensive than regular bulk packs, but not by much.
For my MKIII, almost everything has shot fine, but I prefer the Federal Bulk (wally world red box) as I like the bullet design better than the Winchester bulk.
I stay away from Remington ammo if at all possible.

| 22lr ammo
I have a 21a bobcat and it's real fussy with ammo.
I keep it loaded with cci stingers but for target and plinking I really likt cci mini mags. The bulk stuff I have good results with are win. dynapoints. They fire clean and cycle well in the 21a bobcat.
Blazers were dirty and after a mag and a half I had to clean the 21a to make it cycle and to keep the shells from sticking in the breech.
My LCR 22 seems to shoot everything without a problem but there is no cycling involved so that solves a lot right there.

I use the Winchester Xpert HV in my 10-22 and my Marlin and it works very well and doesnt seem to be that dirty. After discovering that my 10-22 liked it I have stayed with it because unlike my Marlin my 10-22 is finicky about the ammo I feed her. This is my opinion and it is subjective but remember YMMV.

CCI & Aguilla are about the cleanest burning rimfire ammo's out there. Personally I don't mind a little soot in my rimfires so I just use whatever seems to work best for my given weapon choice at the time, mostly CCI's for me but I'll use some of the AR platform specific (CCI AR tactical, Winchester M-22's) in all my rimfire AR platforms, they do tend to be a little dirtier but I thoroughly clean all my guns regardless of how dirty they get so that personally doesn't matter much to me, I look more at how the ammo functions in the given firearm choice.
