Best ammo for LC9

I need opinions for best ammo for my LC9. I am not talking about target or range shooting. I am talking about defensive ammo that I would use when I carry. So go ahead, shoot your opinion. (no pun inteneded lol)

Well there seem to be a lot of Critical Defense 115g fanboys on this forum so I am sure you will get plenty of suggestions for that.

I would buy a few boxes of any of the following: Speer Gold Dot, Winchester PDX1, Winchester Ranget-T, Federal HST, or any other popular round. Just test them to see what functions perfectly and use them. You don't have to use +P to find a good load in 9mm, but I would recommend 124g or 147g.

Short barrel SD ammo

Several of the major makers have ammo explicitly for short barrel weapons, such as the LC9, the Taurus 709 and 740, and similar weapons.

While there is some debate and dispute over the loads for short barrels, they do generally function very well.

I have purchased several boxes of these and have had no problems whatsoever:

X2 on the 'short barrel' rounds. Run at least one complete box through the gun to make sure it functions.

Currently using Critical Defense (not a single problem - 120 rounds) but plan on running some rounds of Gold Dots through my LC9 to see how they do.

In reality, any bullet will do the job, shot placement is key. Find a reliable HP to carry and practice as much as you can. I always try to match bullet weights to my carry and practice rounds so POI won't change much. Just my two cents...

What exactly is different with the Ammo for it to be classified as Short barrel?

Federal LE Tactical HST 124g is what i found to shoot best from my LC9, i buy it from Streicher's for $27/50-round box .. here is a link below
9mm Federal LE Tactical® HST®

I am pretty positive this would have some stopping power ..

Ditto on Critical Defense or I've been running all PDX1 lately and like it...

The bullets are slightly different to allow for proper expansion at the lower velocities from short barrels.

Speer Ammo - Short Barrel

Speer Bullets - Gold Dot Personal Protection Short Barrel

SPECIAL BULLETS FOR YOUR COMPACT FIREARMS. We offer you the same bullets used in Gold Dot® Short Barrel® ammunition as a component for your reloading needs. These bullets are engineered for excellent expansion at velocities common to short—barreled handguns. Gold Dot Short Barrel bullets in .38, .40, and .45 caliber are profiled the same as their regular Gold Dot counterparts for reliable feeding in semi-autos, plus we added more volume to the hollow point cavity to aid in low-velocity expansion.
