| Suggestions for P95 Defense ammo??
Hey forum,
I've started carrying my Ruger P95 on a regular basis. Put 1500 rounds through it and I am confident in its reliability and my accuracy. Any suggestions for good ammunition?? I'm starting to gather that their is not one better then the other, however I'm a bit naive as to what grain, and bullet type is best..
Any tips/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I'd recommend any premium hollowpoint that shoots well in the pistol. I use Winchester PDX1 at the moment.
Fortunately, you can probably shoot a large amount of 9mm +P through a P95 without any trouble, so a +P 124-grain HP load, like one in the Gold Dot series, could be a good choice.
The main thing is being able to hit with it! Sounds like you've been practicing enough to really get to know your pistol. That's an awesome start.
Best wishes,
Dirty Bob

i would suggest the remington golden sabre in 124 grain +p or the 147 grain. i've never had a problem with them expanding in a hand gun or a carbine through different mediums (ie, water, wet news paper, dry news paper, jello, and of coarse just plain ol water).
never did any 10% calibrated ballistics gel, so take this with a grain of salt.

tdb ... While there are many good options available today, my preference is still Winchester Ranger 147gr for overall performance (YMMV).

Dirty Bob | The flexibility of this gun is one of the main reason I got it!! Love that it takes pretty much any 9mm rounds.. I've been shooting federal 115g full metal jacket rounds at the range, and it fires like a champ.
I've been eyeing the Winchester PDX1 rounds for a little while. I might end up trying those. We shall see.. Next paycheck. |

Whats your experience with Hornady? They seem to be much cheaper than most brands which is a plus for my budget, but I have read a couple of bad reviews.. I saw some Hornady hollow points on sale at a local gun shop for $15 the other day.. Probably should have gotten them. |

I've never had to use it in a self defense situation. But I've shot it and heard nothing but good things.

You can see ballistic tests for most ammo on youtube.
I like several rounds in 9mm personal defense:
Cor-Bon 115gr.+9 JHP
Federal 115gr. JHP
Federal 124gr. Hydrashok
Hornaday Critical Defense 115gr.JHP is probably the flavor of the month. Ballistic tests show that the rubber tip in the hollow point prevents in from clogging up when going through denim during the test which can keep it from expanding.

So I found Hornady Critical Defense 115gr. JHP rounds on sale for $18.99 at a local gun shop. I like the looks of them. So we shall see. No room to shoot at the house, and bills to pay, so Range day may have to wait a couple of weeks. I'm anxious to see how they fire.
