LC9s S.D. ammo

Anybody found a specific self defense round that they have grown partial to?

With a short barrel they say that not enough energy to allow for full expansion of most hollow point ammo.

Just wondering if anyone has comments on this one.

I run Horniday Critical Defense in my LC9. No feed or extraction issues. You are better off running a good SD ammo for carry. Standard ball ammo can over penetrate and no one wants that.

I would not use a standard weight hp I would use lighter than 115 grain. I would use corbon power ball myself.

Federal HST 124 gr. Is what my wife carries in her lc9s. I can't say weather or not it is better but when I buy self defense ammo I shoot few rounds to make sure it cycles ok. Too expensive to shoot a whole box but what I have fired it has had no issues.

Number one rated 9mm that passes and surpasses all the FBI tests for expansion and penetration. It's what I use.

I like Speer Gold Dot 147gr in my LC9s. I find the heavy for caliber bullet to be slightly less snappy in an already snappy pistol.

Here's a pretty good analysis of the more popular 9mm defense rounds...testing with a 3.5" barrel.

LC9s S.D. ammo

Liberty Civil Defense in my Shield 9. Should perform the same in the LC9. Doesn't over penetrate, and no, not the biggest wound channel, but they move super fast!

I too chose the Federal HST 124 std pressure round for my 9mm Shield. I also chose HSTs for my 1911 .45. Great round. I bought some 115 gr. Critical Defense for the 9mm, they tested well, but the HST had deeper penetration and greater expansion and they feed well in both of my pistols. In the .380 they expand well but don't meet the FBI penetration minimum. So I do not use them in my .380.

The Liberty and Powerball rounds have been shown to be under-penetrators in testing.

The only good reason not to carry the 9mm HST round is if you can not find them. If you can find them in the 50 round box (Federal P9HST1) they are usually at a good price of around $.38 per round.

After viewing the results on shootingthebull.net, I to went with the Federal HST 124gr load. the site mentioned did extensive testing through short bbl 9mm.

He also did a short bbl 380 range of tests that changed my carry rounds as well. Great unbiased tests done to actual FBI standards.
