22 mag failure

I have been bragging about the fact that I have never had a failure with 22 mag ammo. Then yesterday had two in a NAA Black Widow , I spun the rounds in the cylinder and they fired on the second strike, so I guess it was the primer.
Was using Federal Champion 40gr fmj.
I am making an assumption it was the shells and not the gun, really not sure , it appears the strikes were the about the same.
I have a few diff brands to try. This gun is a backup and or carry when dressing lite.

Shucks, haven't used any Federal Magnum Ammo yet.
Haven't seen any on the shelves for sale.
Have used Armscor jsp, CCI 5 different and Winchester Varmint all have been good so far.
Maybe try some other stuff especially if you're using it for backup like you said.
Would like to know how the other stuff works.
I have been using the ammo through Single Actions and that just might have allot to do with it.

Was it older ammo? Federal .22lr is the only ammo I've ever had go "bad" on me. My Buckmark pistol shot really accurately with bulk Federal CPHP .22lr rounds, so I bought several cartons. It took a couple of years to shoot it up. Halfway through the last 525rd milk-carton I started having FTF and FTE malfunctions. I detail stripped and thoroughly lubed the pistol and magazines. Same results. I bought new mags but it made no difference. I tried other ammo types and the gun ran perfectly. I had fired 1200 rds over two years with barely a jam, then suddenly the problems started. My ammo was always stored in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. I thought maybe it was in my truck on a hot Florida day and somehow degraded. I switched to Remington Golden Bullets and the pistol runs great to this day. I never figured it out. Maybe the same mysterious degradation was suffered by your .22 Magnum ammo.

Sorry to hear that they are using the same quality control now on mags that they have been using for the last few years on on regular 22s.

Ive shot close to three cases of CCI 22 mag last year, not a failure one.

I never tried any federal in 22 mag.

But the federal blue box 22 LR has had failures to ignite on the first strike.

Must be something that runs in federal 22 caliber ammo.

It was a box I bought since Christmas , the first few rounds thru the gun was a half a box of mixed ammo at least 25 years old I had laying around and they all fired mostly Super X I believe.
I have some Winchester SuperX and Hornady Vmax to try next,
