I'm looking at getting a fixed sight single action chambered in a 38special. Having never shot this round before, I was curouis what the point of impact differences might be when shooting the entire spectrum of rounds from 125gr fmj to 158 lead? Windage I wouldn't anticipate much, but what might the elevation be???
Basically, I'd like to experiment to find the round closest to the point of aim. I'm more or less curouis ahead of time.
If nothing works, I'll have to get it dovetailed but just assume not.
As a general rule in a handgun the heavier the bullet the higher it will shoot at handgun ranges. Typically the manufacturer had a bullet weight in mind when they developed the revolver and it should shooter to point of aim with that bullet weight. With any firearm it may take some experimentation to arrive at what works best for your firearm but the good part about that is you get to smell some powder burn in the process.
Well I haven't shot .38 special from a SA fixed sight revolver but I have shot .45 LC and as the man says a heaiver bullet will shoot higer than a ligher one.
I have shot both the 130 FMJ and also shot 158gr LSWC and 158 gr. LRN from my GP100
I find hardly any diffrence in POI @ 10 to 20 yards maybe 1/4 to 1/2" in virtical alighnment.
