I have to think 5 or 10 rounds of +P wouldn't begin to loosen an all steel frame?

I had this same question when I bought ym 1965 model 36. My gunsmith answered it this way: You would be safe shooting some +P, but I wouldn't make a habit out of it. Just remember, if you do cause damage, S&W will not repair it if they think you used +P ammo.

I carry it strictly as carry ammo. I have never put a +P round in my older "J" frames for that reason.

I certainly can't see any problem using it as carry ammo. Practice with the regular stuff. The only issue might be not knowing where you POI will be if you didn't shoot some of it beforehand. That won't matter if the encounter is up close and personel anyway, only if you need to place a shot at a bit longer distance.

I wouldn't risk tweaking my J-frame for such a marginal increase in performance with that 1.8" barrel...whatever you shoot, won't know the difference anyway. Go with a heavier bullet, if you want more stopping power.
