remanufactured ammo

This is a discussion on remanufactured ammo within the Ammo Dump forums, part of the Firearm Forum category; I was in our local gun store last week, and they had some bags of "re-manufactured ammo" at a good price. Anyone use that?...

Reloaded ammo of someone else is never a good buy, I by accident (boxed up in a dark blue box) got some and found it to be terribly inaccurate and just not worth the price even the shell casing were of a different inconsistent brand. I would say no it is not a good deal.

I once bought a bag of reloads at a range, and two out of the fifty rounds failed. I mentioned it when I was checking out and they told me they would give me two extra rounds with the next bag of reloads I purchased. I just shrugged and went on my way.

I enjoy firing my own reloads, but will no longer fire reloads from someone else. At least if my reloads fail, I have nobody to blame but myself.

I buy reloads from Freedom Munitions ... no problems and very consistent. However a shooting friend bought some reloads from some guy at a gun show and it was a good price but very inconsistent in accuracy and ignition.

I guess buyer beware ...

Generic "bagged" ammo is seldom worth messing with. You truly do get what you pay for. If you do buy it be sure to keep it just for "blasting/ plinking" use. Even then be alert for squib loads. If anything sounds or feels "funny" after a shot STOP IMMEDIATELY! Check for any bore obstruction before attempting to fire another round. If you shoot a semi-auto at least you get to practice malfunction clearance drills.

I have had maybe 1 out of several thousand rounds remanufactured ammo. I will buy it form a gun store I know. Not from "some guy" at a gun show.

There is definitely quality factory re-manufactured ammo available (such as Freedom Munitions). If it doesn't say who loaded it, I wouldn't buy it. I'll never buy unlabeled reloads at a gun show.

Factory new or reloaded by me. I don't shoot anything else.

Not worth it. There is a difference between re-manufactured rounds such as Freedom Munitions that is done on the same machinery as new ammo, and reloads, which are more than likely done in someone's garage on a hand press.

ALL depends on who loaded it. Several smaller companies sell "remanufactured ammo" and the only difference between that and NEW ammo, is the brass is used. So if you would use their new ammo, why would the reloads bother anyone?

Now if the ammo is "unknown" proceed at own risk

+1 to Freedom Munitions. I have shot a 1,000 of their remanufactured ammo in .380acp & 9mm without issue.

I guess it comes down to knowing the source.

If the remanufactured ammo comes from a source such as Freedom Munitions then I think you are fine. I reload my own ammo plus shoot factory ammo. When you have a caliber that's not readily made such as .327 FM. Well you have to reload your own because it's expensive. I got a Ruger SP101 in .327FM. Well I have bought Starline Brass and bingo now have my own ammo loaded to my own needs!!!

Re-man from a source like Freedom Munitions is OK but mystery ammo in a baggie no thanks. Shooting only your own reloads makes sense - not because if you load your own yours will be 100% perfect but rather if you have a serious issue you have only yourself to blame. The indoor ranges I frequent in my area do not allow reloaded/hand loaded ammo but reman from FM is fine.

I've seen a lot of junk reloads over the years coming out of gun shows and people with problems.

Myself, I never touch anything but my own or factory.
