It seems like available Winchester 0.38 Special ammunition and descriptions of it on Winchester's web site are different. Do the manufacturers change ammunition specifications often?

All ammo manufacturers occasionally change specs and bullets in their ammo as they update their technology. As an example, here are two pics of Win 125gr .38+P Silvertips. Both bullets are Silvertips, the one on the left is the newer version, the right one is the older version. Excuse the pics, I am at work and took them with my CrackBerry. ![]() ![]() The older version appears to still have the old, aluminum jacket. It has very small notches at the bullet tip for expansion. The notches don't appear to cut completely through the jacket material. The newer version appears to be nickle-plated gilding metal, just like a normal jacketed bullet. The expansion notches appear to be plain old lead, like the jacket material was cut away to leave the lead. Both are, as stated, 125gr Silvertips. They are just from two different time periods. The older version probably from 5 or 6 years ago, the newer version is from about a year ago. Completely different bullets, same name, updated technology. Not that the older bullets were necessarily bad, but the newer bullets should be better because of updated technology. Bub |
