My 556 has eaten anything and everything I have fed it. Granted, I have never fed it steel cased stuff, but I have read that it will eat it just fine as long as you clean good afterwards. I generally use American Eagle 55gr in either .223 or 5.56. PMC has been good in .223 and their X-Tac line in 5.56. The LGS had Independence on sale for 5.99/20 for a while and that stuff ran great too. I've only used 55gr, no need to pay the little extra money for 62 gr or the higher match grade stuff when i just plink.

Thats the kind of information I was looking for and will help me. Have you noticed any that seems more dirter than others?

I use mainly PMC 55gr in mine at the range, have run some Noveske, Federal, Geco all with zero problems. SGammo and PSA are always running deals.

I bought the AR556 about 3 weeks ago. I have used Federal 55 gr FMJ, Aguila 55gr FMJ, and American Eagle 5.56 NATO 65 gr green tips and all have fired with no problem. Enjoy the fun.

Independence has probably been the dirtiest of what I listed, but I like cleaning my guns so it didn't bother me. I will also add, the PMC .223 seems to be loaded a little hotter than the AE .223 or other .223 that I've shot. Since the AR556 is rated for 5.56, its not a problem, just an observation I have made.

I've used Wolf Gold, Fiocchi, Perfecta (which some claim is made by Fiocchi) and Tulammo steel case with no problems. Actually the Tulammo shot very accurate to my surprise. All were 55gr fmj

American Eagle 55 grain 556 is all my AR has seen. Never any problems with it.

Given the 1:8 twist, the barrel should do well with just about any ammo from 55gr to 77gr but 1:8 is optimized to take advantage of the heavier end of the spectrum. I have had excellent results with PPU 69gr and 75gr OTM in my 1:8 SPR barrel.

Sounds like you buy at Walmart. That's all the brands mine carries.

It's simple, do not use brass cased ammo after steel cased ammo without a good chamber cleaning, period. Steel does not seal the chamber as tightly as brass leaving behind all kind of residue, not to mention low quality of powder. Better yet, stick to brass cased, save the brass, learn how to reload.

I have only shot 20 rounds of brass ammo,WWB 55 gr. The rest (over 2K rounds) has been WOLF WPA POLYFORMANCE 55gr FMJ steel case ammo. I have not had ANY problems with it at all! I ordered another 1K rounds about an hour ago. At .20 per round VS .25-.30 cents per round, well, you do the math. Oh, I'm not going to give up on brass ammo, but, if you don't have a lot of money and/or want to save money, there is NOTHING wrong with shooting steel case ammo. Besides, I am very anal about cleaning my firearms after shooting them.

I have run about 1500 rds. through my AR556 with no FTE\FTF.I've shot Tulammo steel 55 gr,PMC brass 55 gr,Federal brass 55gr and MEN brass 5.56.
I mixed them in the same mags and really heated the rifle up, and they all worked perfectly.
I did clean the rifle extremely well when I got it out the box, it was literally dripping oil and had metal shavings in the chamber, bolt head and firing pin areas.
I also clean it thoroughly after every trip to the range. I really like my AR556 and my S&W MP 15 sport 2, they both eat everything I've put through them.
