I went by the local Walmart Sat. morning and they had more ammo on the shelves than I have seen in a long time. Lots of WWB 9mm as well as a few boxes of WWB 40 S&W and 45acp. Not much 22LR though.

Our Walmart does get small shipments now and then. If you happen to be there at the right time, buy! They do limit your purchase though.

North Florida area Walmarts (Particularly Gainesville area) have not been restocked with much more than shotgun shells since December/January. Downright frustrating. Alachua Farm & Lumber in Alachua was pretty well stocked when I went there last week. |

Several Walmarts in my area have been hit or miss with ammo. Usually they are all sold out except for shotgun shells and a few large caliber rifle options but I have gotten there at the right moment a few times and they had just stocked boxes of handgun ammo like .38, .40 and 9mm. Early mornings and late evenings if they unload the shipment for the next morning are the best time to get lucky.

Walmarts are still pretty hit and miss around here. They are getting more ammo in, but it's still just a matter of luck to get it before it sells out. I have noticed that the best ones to check out are the ones that stopped selling rifles. I've found more ammo at them than any others. And it also helps to check them on week days. They are always sold out on the weekends, but restock during the week.

We are not yet seeing this in San Diego; at least I am not! I will have to start going more often to see if there are patterns I should follow. I did notice that the reloaded ammo at my local range was starting to go down in price as it becomes more abundant so maybe the trends are changing!

The scuttle butt around here, is our Wal-Mart is trying to get out the ammo/gun business. One of the guys I fly with (R/C airplanes) says the clerk told him that when the department puts in an order, the manager crosses off the ammo before ordering . So no wonder nothing is showing up.. I hear the Helena store just got a whole pallet of .22s in .... Might have to make a trip over....

It's the sporting goods managers that's the problem. Since our stores have no guns, they could care less if there's any ammo. I'll have to check Cabelas out to see if it is getting better. Don't understand, our local range/gun store never seems to have any problems finding ammo to sell.

Pretty slim (non-existant) picking here in town and in neighboring city of Missoula. I did pick up a couple of bricks of .22LR in Missoula which left just 'one' box on the shelf for someone else to pick up. Interesting that you now have to 'pay' for it right there rather than bring it to the front . Times are a chang'n. Guess they've had some steal'n goin' on.

Ammo shortage starting to ease up quite a bit in our area too. Yesterday at the Gun Show there was a LOT of 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 38 Special, etc. Prices are not too bad now either; saw 9mm for 15$, for instance. 380 ACP has just started to become available, but the price has already come down from 40$ a box to around 20. Still high, but a lot better. Also got a brick of CCI small pistol primers. And when we left around noon, they STILL HAD SOME LEFT! That has not happened for months! Price was 33$/1000. So, it looks like things are finally breaking. Concerning Wal-Mart, the advice above is right on. Around here they get their ammo shipments on Sat night. So LATE Sat or early Sun will often work. Today, the 9mm was gone when I went, (around 5:00 PM) but they still had some 40 S&W. About 13$/50. They are selling the the 9mm for $9.47/50 (!). |

True enough, I remember Cali when it was still a free American state, that was a looong time ago. I was stationed there in the early eighties and remember shooting full auto's and semi's at the local ranges. My first HK 91 was purchased at the LA county fair grounds gun show. That was a fair time ago, too bad.

My local gun shops keep a fairly decent amount of supplies of everything. If anyone needs some basics I would be glad to price it and ship it.

And this is in an area where the local Bass Pro shops sale flyers often include not only long guns, but HANDGUNS! So WalMart has definitely 'gone south' on us for sure. I guess they have gone along with the crowd on that. Too bad. They do still sell ammo though, and they're selling it for just about what it sold for "P.O." ("Pre-Obama"). 9mm 'range ammo' for $9.95/50.
