The winchester 38+p are always in stock and they are always out of the winchester 38 special FMJ. Wallmart always has 38 specials FMJ for 30 bucks a hundred, BP sells them for 18 bucks for 50. | Being a rookie, I am curious and in the learning mode.
Why won't you shoot Remington 357 mag lead rounds?
What ammo do you prefer for practice? Protection?
Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your reply. | Jacketed lead is good and the winchester 38 specials FMJ are clean for practice, not too bad pricewise but I think you can get a better group with more expensive ammo. You can also get the WINCLEAN from winchester but they are expensive. Full lead is very dirty and I just prefer not to use them. My nephew owns a gun shop and I just found out about it!!!! We have been so busy over the years that I have not talked to him in a long time.Opened about 7 months ago so I stopped by today and he sold me some PMC 357 158gr. JSP's which Im going to shoot soon.i will let you know what I think about them. This is a sight that will give you lots of info about the 101 and ammo that it shoots. It called the snubnose files. Do a google search and click on the link.

This is a sight that will give you lots of info about the 101 and ammo that it shoots. www.thesnubnosefiles.com | I fired my new GP100 last week for the first time: 18 rounds of Remington UMC 357 Mag, 125 GR., SEMI-JKTD Hollow Point; 100 rounds of Remington UMC 38 SPECIAL, 130 GR., MC. (some of this nomenclature is intuitive to me, some is not. I am still having to do research to learn what it means!) I thoroughly cleaned and lubricated the gun prior to going to the range.
I was surprised to find a considerable amount of fouling at the bottom of the barrel (by the cylinder) in the 4-6 o'clock area. It appeared to be lead, not copper. Is this to be expected with this type of ammo?

Im really anal about keeping everything clean from my boat, motorcycle and everything else I have. If you ever want to sell or trade it in the price will be top dollar for pristine condition. |

| Cabela Ammo
t conroy: Sounds like the Cabelas in my neighborhood. Even the employees can't find the handgun ammo. I also won't go back just for ammo, but I'll check it out if I'm there for some other reason. Sometimes they have 9mm specials, and they honor online prices. Wal-Mart is 40 miles closer so you can guess who gets most of my business.

I went on a trip cross a few states this week. hit Cabelas, Dicks, Walmart, etc. NO 357 magnum in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia nor Maryland!
I have given up and ordered 1500 357 magnum brass an will be reloading. not sure where anyone can get 357 magnum factory ammo in the east mid a\tlantic region, but, it is just not there....., I sure can't find it. Has it been moved out of mainstream by the , nevermind.......

I don't post often to this sight and have learned a great deal from reading others posts. I am very new to handguns and really enjoy the sport. I went to my local Wally World and purchased the Tulammo for my SR9. Horrible stuff!! Had many FTE's and found they left my gun covered in powder. From now on I will only fire Federal and WWB. Just my two cents.

I have been purchasing ammo at Walmart too recently.
It is hard to not purchase it because of the prices. Mostly .38 Special and .357 FMJ for target.
However, I do purchase a box or two a week at the range/gunshop my friend and I go to.
It is not that much more at the range.
Purchasing ammo has become a quest for me.
I will swing by Walmart at least every two weeks and see what is available.
But, I still strongly believe in supporting the gunshops and ranges.
What you pay 'extra for' there is the service and availability.
Walmart does not really have that going for them.
I have learned that the big box (500ct or more) of .22LR that you can get at Walmart is not as good as CCI ammo.
(That I learned at the range/gunshop)
Well, not in a .22 semi-auto anyways. It fires pretty good in my Single Six.
It jams or misfires more often in my friend's little .22 semi-auto.
I will have maybe 2 out of 100 misfire from the Big Box stuff in my S-Six and never see any misfires with the CCI brand at all.
The only .22 magnums I use are CCI. Great stuff and a blast to shoot.
I was considering purchasing ammo for guns I do not even own....Yet.
Figuring ammo will only go up then why not buy a box of 9mm, and even some .45 Long Colt/.45ACP once in a while and put it on the shelf.
I know at some point I am going to own handguns in those calibers.
I do want either a New Model Blackhawk .45/.45ACP convertible or a Vaquero .45 down the road.
Eventually both.
And of course some kind of 9mm.
Maybe a convertible Blackhawk .357/9mm.
I really enjoy having a convertible handgun.
A convertible from .357 to a 9mm is kinda cool. PLUS it is still a revolver!
I can still fire what I have for my SP101 AND have the fun of a 9mm which is less expensive to shoot.
I am no expert at this stuff but, I am gaining experience, accuracy, and knowledge every week we go to the range.

I managed to buy 2 boxes of Federal .45 ACP FMJ at our local Walmart last week. This week all they had was WWB JHP.

My Advantage Arms .22 conversion unit for my Glock 20 absolutely hated the Wal-Mart Remington Golden Bullets 550 pk.
High percentage FTF rate.
Lousy accuracy.
Frequent failure to lock the slide back after the last round...ect. ect. ect.
Some would go "BANG", and some would just go "pop".
And I had 550 of those little pieces of !$#%&*! to burn up!
On the other hand. the unit functioned 100% with both the CCI 40 grain solids, and the 36 grain HP's.
Quite accurate too. |

| For those who want good bulk ammo, this is the stuff:
My Walmart sells it.... comes in 325 rounds rather than 500 and is a little more expensive but will eliminate the headaches! |

As an aside, I have been using the Federal bulk ammo that comes in the 550 count box, and they seem to be OK. Anybody else?
